Why planets orbit the sun in a “plate” type pattern?

    Hi everyone.

Has anyone here given much thought as to why the planets that orbit the sun, follow or stay in line with the “plate” type pattern? When I had first considered why exactly the “plate pattern” exists, I thought it was possible that it was just easier to illustrate the solar system that way, such as in books. As it turns out, that isn’t the truth. That the planets actually follow that “plate” type course. So why wouldn’t much physical phenomena exist throughout or “venture into” all that empty space where the planets don’t go into? What exactly causes the planets to align this way?

I had a conversation earlier with a friend about experiments with the eclipse, and it somehow led to this question.

When planets are close in orbiting phase they are attracting each other and when they are in opposite phase the effect is very weak.
