Before I begin a detailed discussion, could someone tell me whether LATEX is supported on this website, and if so, what is the format that is used?

We have the Mathjax-Latex plugin installed which allows for math equations. Here is a link on how you can use it: https://wordpress.org/plugins/mathjax-latex/

I have written a post using the latex commands in the article above, but it did not work. I see you are using WordPress as your platform. I use WordPress, too, and found that the plugin called QuickLaTeX is easy to install and works well.
