Independent researchers rarely get funding from universities or government agencies, especially when their work questions established theory. NPRI Research Grants fill that gap. They are paid for by our donors and members and awarded to NPRI members.
Researchers: apply for funding
Do you have an experiment, a measurement, a paper or a book that needs funding? Applying for an NPRI grant is a benefit of membership. Applications are open all year.
Donors: fund independent research
Your gift goes straight to researchers working outside the mainstream. You can donate any amount, or sponsor a grant in your own name or in someone’s memory.
What we fund
- Experiments and measurements, including equipment, materials and lab time.
- Theoretical work that leads to a paper, such as a paper submitted to the Natural Philosophy Journal.
- Books and monographs: editing, typesetting and publication costs.
- Data, software and simulations released for others to use.
- Getting the work seen: travel to present, videos and teaching material.
How it works
- Become a member. Grants are a benefit of NPRI membership, at any level.
- Apply online. Describe your project, what it will produce, the amount you need and how you will spend it.
- We review it. NPRI looks at whether the plan is sound, whether you can carry it out, and whether the budget is realistic. We do not ask whether the conclusion agrees with mainstream theory. We may ask you for more information.
- Funded projects report back. You tell us how the money was spent and what you found. Whenever possible, the results are published in the Journal or presented at a Saturday Session.
The amount and number of grants depend on what our donors give. Tell us what your project really needs. Smaller, well-defined projects are easier to fund.
Sponsor a grant
Would you like to fund a particular kind of research, sponsor a grant in your own name, or honour someone who inspired you? Tell us what you have in mind and we will reply by email.
NPRI is applying for federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Once approved, it applies back to our incorporation — so gifts made now will be covered too.
