Giving ScienceWoke online ”magazine” a new name
At the time that our online magazine, “ScienceWoke” was created and named, “woke” seemed like an excellent term and meant seeing beyond the currently accepted thinking. However, without specifically focusing on that topic, over time, I have noticed that the essence of what it meant back then seems to have evaporated and the only time I see it now it has pejorative connotations. We don’t want to turn off a significant portion of our potential readership – first impressions are important. So since the magazine is young and, hopefully, just starting its upward growth, it may be prudent to consider a more neutral name such as “Critical Thinking In Science” although the URL name would need to be shortened to something like CTIS or CTScience. Alternatively, “ScienceGuru” occurred to me as a number of our YouTube channels are so named. While that’s a nice compact name, like “woke”, “guru” might also have some non-science connotations. Please reflect on the above and send in any and all thoughts for a new name for the magazine and what could be used as an associated URL (including the suffix, e.g., .com, .org, .guru) – note that we will also need to see if any recommended URL is already in use.
