Abstract

This paper gives detailed consideration to Galilean transformation equations. It shows that equations describing the change of wavelength for either sound or light can be derived directly from the Galilean transformation equations. It also shows that, at least in Galilean mechanics, two inertial reference frames, one linked to the source of waves and the other linked to the detector, are not equivalent.
