Abstract

Summary extract:

  1. Up to now no acoustic Michelson test has been performed. Such a test could give much information and would also be of great importance in technology, since a clear idea could be gained about the propagation of waves from moving solids.
  2. In optics a Michelson test may be associated in a simple manner with a Fizeau test. For this purpose the mirrors of the M-test are excites by high-frequency acoustic waves. The changes in density within the mirror act a very fast grille shutter, so there is no longer interference between continous waves but only between discontinous impulses, as was originally supposed in the theory of the M-test.
