Abstract

Foundations for Special Relativity are often claimed in Michelson`s experiments, which registered constant value of light speed. Lorentz explained this result by variations of length and time caused by movement of the Earth relative to the ether. Einstein gave an alternative explanation: characteristics of space and time in a definite reference system vary, if measured by a moving observer, in such a way that the light speed appears constant. This idea contains several logical discrepancies. The present paper seeks to expose and remedy them.
