Abstract

An optical experiment [E.W. Silvertooth, Nature (London) 322, 590 (1986); Spec. Sci. Tech. 10, 3 (1987); H. Aspden, Ibid., 9] has been performed, one interpretation of which casts doubt on the special theory of relativity. In view of the far-reaching implications of this experiment, it seems important to examine its mode of operation in some detail The present note represents a first attempt at this.
