Ott Christoph Hilgenberg (1896 in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grebenstein Grebenstein] near [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kassel Kassel] - 1976 in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin Berlin]) was a German engineer, scientist and humanist. Directly after his [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abitur Abitur] in the year 1914 Hilgenberg was drawn to the war service, but he was discharged after a knee injury. Afterwards he studied electrical mechanical engineering at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_University_of_Berlin Technical University of Berlin] and remained as an engineer until 1924. Inspired by [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Wegener Alfred Wegener]'s work Hilgenberg intensely worked in the area of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expanding_Earth_theory Expanding Earth theory]. From 1934-1938 he was an assistant in teaching Transmission (mechanics). An engagement as a Professor failed because Hilgenberg refused to become a member of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Party NSDAP]. Due to good contacts Hilgenberg could receive 10000 technical books for the library of the TH Berlin from the British. In 1931, O. C. Hilgenberg proposed that gravity was due to the converging (sink) flow of the ether, and may have been the first to postulate the idea.
