Compton won the Nobel Prize for his work in what is now known as the &amp;quot;Compton Effect&amp;quot;, but his work on the shape of the electron&amp;amp;nbsp;is less known. His experiments on the electron clearly&amp;amp;nbsp;demonstrated a ring or toroidal shape. His last graduate student [/php2/index.php?tab0=Scientists&amp;amp;amp;tab1=Display&amp;amp;amp;id=811 Dr. Winston Bostick]&amp;amp;nbsp;returned to&amp;amp;nbsp;this work and added much to this investigation.&amp;amp;nbsp; Others, including those at [http://www.commonsensescience.org/ &amp;lt;em&amp;gt;Common Sense Science&amp;lt;/em&amp;gt;],&amp;amp;nbsp;have taken this work even further, applying this knowledge to real-world problems.&lt;br /&gt;

Urban legend, influenced by the work of Compton&amp;#039;s graduate student Robert Shankland,&amp;amp;nbsp;drones on&amp;amp;nbsp;that Compton tried every possible way to explain his famous &amp;quot;Compton Effect&amp;quot; by classical physics, but in the end had to accept the &amp;quot;quantum&amp;quot; solution.&amp;amp;nbsp; A Copenhagen believer, Shankland did his best to rewrite history and discredit Compton&amp;#039;s earlier work.&amp;amp;nbsp; However, as evidenced by the work of another of&amp;amp;nbsp;Compton&amp;#039;s students, [/php2/index.php?tab0=Scientists&amp;amp;amp;tab1=Display&amp;amp;amp;id=811 Dr. Winston Bostick], and by Compton&amp;#039;s own writings, the issues of finite particle size were by no means resolved.&amp;amp;nbsp; As Compton himself believed, Compton&amp;#039;s famous formula can be explained without Copenhagen.&lt;br /&gt;
